Don't Miss Spring Alumni Weekend: April 4 – 6, 2025

Alumni, parents and friends are invited to campus for a weekend filled with fun, fellowship, and festivities

Spring Alumni Weekend is the perfect time for alumni to return to campus! This year’s event is scheduled for April 4 - 6, so mark your calendars and make plans to join in the festivities. From the Marlin Family Picnic and alumni games to class reunions, intercollegiate athletics, and faculty retirement celebrations, it’s sure to be the perfect time to reconnect with old friends and connect with new ones.

The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with an alumni gathering at Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse. Join us in celebrating the 25th & 50th Reunions of the Class of 1975 and Class of 2000! Reconnect, reminisce and share stories with classmates, friends, family, faculty and staff at this gathering hosted by the Alumni Council.

There is also a VWU Theatre and Music production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center on campus. Performances of this unique retelling of Shakespeare’s classic are also scheduled throughout the weekend—on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Alumni games begin on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. Don’t miss friendly competitions for women’s and men’s soccer, field hockey, and women’s volleyball!

Enjoy VFMA on the Road, a much-beloved art mobile, on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. This mobile interactive art space brings works from the VMFA’s collection to communities across the state in a dynamic, educational space that features hands-on activities and immersive digital experiences.

The Marlin Family Picnic will take place near Birdsong Field on Saturday from 12 – 3 p.m. with a picnic-style lunch provided by Sodexo, live entertainment from Astro DJ; drinks from the Hoffman beverage tent; as well as special delights such as complimentary cotton candy and face painting, inflatibles, and more. Join fellow Marlins in the Reunion Tent, sponsored by Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse, to celebrate the Class of 1975 and the Class of 2000, who will be invited to add their signatures to the University Scroll. A special toast to retiring faculty members Kathy Ames, Linda Ferguson and Doug Kennedy is planned for 12:50 p.m.

VWU Softball hosts their 15th annual Strike Out Cancer event beginning at noon on Saturday. They host Shenandoah University in a doubleheader, with the first game beginning at 1 p.m.

Saturday afternoon also includes intercollegiate competitions for Marlin’s Baseball, as they host Averett University in a doubleheader that begins at noon. Men’s (1:30 p.m.) and women’s (4 p.m.) lacrosse host Guilford College on Birdsong Field.

At 2 p.m., the VWU Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Faculty will host an EES Spring Social that includes kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, etc. on Lake Christopher.

On Sunday at Everett Tennis Center, Men’s tennis hosts Hardin-Simmons University at noon; and women’s tennis hosts Bridgewater College at 3 p.m.

The weekend concludes with a student-led worship service at the Monumental Chapel at 4 p.m.
